In September 2010, Charlie set off on his quest to ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 11 days – an average of 85 miles a day. Mel’s Dad also did the trip, though he did take a bit longer – he was 61 after all!!! Both of us loved the challenge and were joined along the route by a group of friends and family who cycled for a day or few to help with the effort.
As now, the cause was all about funding the search for the cure to ACC. Initially, we thought we might raise 10K, if we were lucky, but the whole adventure really snow-balled and seemed to resonate with a wide pool of supporters. The result was that we raised over £50,000, which, frankly, blew us away. The generosity of people, known to us or not, was really humbling, and we have already invested this money in cancer gene research (go to the ACC RESEARCH page to find out more about the research agenda!).
With the original End2End4ACC being such a success we had to replicate the challenge in 2011 – this time heading from North to South!
